Dr. Brett Halts His Blogging

FAQs contributor Brett Steenbarger has officially put his blog on hold as of today. Brett has been a prolific blogger on the subject of trading psychology and trader development for over four years. He’s taken a permanent position with a hedge fund, so in order to avoid conflicts of interest he will not be posting anymore. The blog, though, will remain up and available, and Brett has been putting together several aggregate listing posts in recent weeks as he’s wound things down.

On a personal note, Brett was at least indirectly responsible for The Essentials of Trading being published. His book The Psychology of Trading had shortly before been published by Wiley and after giving my book’s draft a read he suggested I get in touch with them about publication. Brett then even wrote the foreword.

An excellent value

I found this an excellent value. The newbie is exposed to a range of important ideas, ideas that will hopefully save him from the 92% failure rate. I have no hesitation in recommending it

I have not met John Forman, though we correspond from time to time. I believe John is sincere in what he is looking to achieve and certainly he and I share the same attitude when it comes to lifting the dismal failure rate among newbies.

John Forman in London May 18, 2010

John Forman, the Author/Editor of Trading FAQs, will be speaking at the European Conference 2010, an event put on by the publishers of The Technical Analyst magazine. He’ll be speaking on the second day of the event, May 18th, on the subject of seasonal patterns in the foreign exchange market. This is a change from what was reported earlier due to some adjustments made by the conference organizers. John Bollinger is probably the highest profile name among the other presenters.

Kudos to John Forman

Kudos to John Forman, who has assembled an edited volume specific to the questions most asked by developing traders. A variety of experienced traders and market bloggers have participated in the volume, offering a mix of viewpoints. It is often quite difficult for new traders to obtain impartial guidance in starting their careers, so such resources are quite valuable. The topics for the questions range from trading mechanics and trading psychology to market analysis and trading careers. Good stuff!

Not just for brand new traders

I’ll be candid with you. When I first saw the title I wondered how worthwhile this would be for traders that already have more than a year’s experience, but I must say that I was very pleasantly surprised at the content of the book. The book addresses questions and problems that I hear about regularly from traders that have been trading for 5+ years.

One of the biggest benefits readers will enjoy is comes from the fact that a big challenge traders face is addressing the many details that go into a successful trading career. It is so easy for several of the essential items to be overlooked for a very long time, and the “Trading FAQs” will remind them of matters that have been forgotten, neglected or never known, while offering solid advice and suggestions on how to address these details.

For anyone considering this book, just get it and stop wondering if you should. John produces extremely good work and this will make an excellent addition to your trading library.

A melting pot of traders and educators

John Forman has managed to bring together in a melting pot of traders and educators whose methodologies are diverse but basically the same in order to survive as a wanabe trader. As one who has taken up trading only a few years, very late in life, I can relate to what have been expressed in this ebook compiled by John. Not all traders or educators are born equal but the trademarks of these traders, who are also authors, bear the same mantra to crush it to trading success.

John Forman on Currensee Panel April 27

John Forman, the Author/Editor of Trading FAQs, will be taking part in a panel discussion hosted by Currensee on April 27 as 1:30PM Eastern. The panel is titled “Scalper, Swinger, or Holder?”, and as the name suggests will discuss the three primary trading time frames. Given Currensee’s focus on the retail foreign exchange arena, the conversation will naturally have a forex bent to it, but most likely will be applicable to traders of any market.
